Port of Long Beach Administrative Building

The Security Command and Control Center at the Port of Long Beach has received several industry awards including the 2009 “Project Achievement Award in the Public Sector” from the Construction Management Association of America, and the “Best of 2009 – Award of Merit in Green Building” from California Construction Magazine. The facility is a 25,110 square foot facility that supports the Port of Long Beach Security Division, the Port of Los Angeles Police, the U.S. Coast Guard, and the U.S. Customs and Border Patrol as part of the Department of Homeland Security protection efforts.

To further enhance the Port’s capabilities, the three-story structure serves several security units including Harbor Patrol and Marine Exchange. Emergency management facilities were also allotted for the Department of Operations Center in order to provide emergency law enforcement response to the San Pedro bay port complex.

Project received Silver LEED certification upon completion. FTR upheld strict standards of sustainability through every phase of construction and project completion; implementing thorough project waste management strategies, observing certified wood and local/regional building material specifications, and using certified post-consumer recycled materials, energy efficient fixtures, and low VOC paints and sealants.

The Port of Long Beach is one of the busiest ports in the world, handling 30 percent of all goods imported into the United States, facilitating a serious demand for state-of-the-art security provisions.
